[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 경기도의회 교육기획위원회 위원장 정윤경 의원은 군포지역 통학구역 조정 문제로 군포의왕교육지원청 담당부서와 정담회를 실시했다고 밝혔다.

최근 산본 아파트 단지를 중심으로 학부모들은 교육청에서 기존 학교 운영의 효율을 중시하는 통학구역 보다 ‘통학거리’를 기준으로 한 통학구역으로 설정하여야 한다고 주장하고 있다고 했다. 

교육청에서는 행정구역이나 아파트 단지를 중심으로 통학구역을 설정하다 보니 경계에 거주하는 학생들이 가까운 학교가 있음에도 원거리 학교로 배정되어 불이익을 받고 있다는 이유라고 했다. 

일예로 2000년에 군포지역의 수리초등학교와 궁내초등학교는 각각 25학급과 29학급으로 지금의 통학구역으로 적정학급을 이루고 있었고, 그러나 2021년 현재 수리초 11학급, 궁내초 24학급으로 지속적인 학생 수 감소에 따른 학급 수의 감소가 일어난 것이라고 했다.

이렇게 학급 수에 여유가 생기자 수리초 통학구역의 경계에 있는 롯데묘향아파트의 일부 학부모들은 통학거리가 가까운 궁내초등학교로 변경해 줄 것을 군포의왕교육청에 요청하였다. 교육환경이 변했음에도 길 건너의 궁내초등학교를 두고 더 먼 수리초등학교를 다니는 것에 대한 불만을 제기한 것이라고 했다.

정윤경 위원장은 “도심내 학생 수 감소가 지속되고 있으므로 학교현장 의견 수렴 및 연구용역 등을 통해 적정한 통학구역을 설정하여야 할 때”라면서 이를 위해 “중․장기적으로 군포지역 전체 통학구역을 면밀히 재검토해야 한다”라고 의견을 제시했다.

이에 대해 교육청 관계자는 “매년 학급 편제와 통학 편의를 고려해 통학구역을 조정하고 있다” 면서 “지속적으로 지역주민의 의견을 청취하여 교육여건을 개선해 나가겠다”고 답했다.

끝으로 정윤경 위원장은 “교육행정이 학생들과 학부모들이 만족할 수 있는 시스템으로 변화할 시기라며 세심한 학생 배치로 소규모 학교는 물론 과밀이 예상되는 학교에도 숨통이 트이는 효과를 줄 수 있도록 고민하여야 한다." 며 교육청의 적극적 노력을 당부했다.
