이번 공모사업은 김 의원이 가평군새마을부녀회와 농특산물가공연구회 등을 만나 공모를 제안하여 이루어졌으며,  지난 3월 19일 결과 발표를 통해 선정된 가평 시민단체는 '새마을부녀회 9백만원, 새마을회 8백만원, 농특산물가공연구회 7백만원, 농업인단체협의회 5백만원'으로 우리 가평 농산물을 구매하여 취약계층을 지원하게 됐다고 했다.

김경호 의원은 "시민단체 먹거리 보장사업’은 시민단체가 중심이 되어 먹거리 취약계층을 지원하는 등 지역 먹거리 공동체 형성 유도를 위해 필요한 경비를 지원하는 사업'이라고 말했다. 또, "경제 성장, 복지 확대에도 불구하고 경제적 사정으로 먹거리를 보장받지 못하는 도민은 증가한 반면, 예산으로 모든 문제를 해결하는 데 어려움이 있고 미국 등 해외 선진국에서도 시민들의 자발적 참여를 통해 지역 농업과 연계한 지역의 취약계층 해소"를 위해 노력하고 있다고 했다.
