[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시는 행정안전부 주관 2022년 마을공방 육성사업 공모에 「구슬땀 마을공방」 사업이 최종 선정됐다고 밝혔다. 

마을공방사업은 주민소통형과 소득기반형으로 구분되는데, 이번에 선정된 전국 6개소 가운데 소득기반형으로는 강릉시가 유일하다. 총 사업비는 2억이며 특별교부세 1억 원을 지원받는다.

마을공방 육성사업은 경기침체, 인구감소 등으로 어려움을 겪는 지역에 소득을 창출할 수 있는 자립 기반을 구축하고, 주민 간 유대감을 형성해 마을공동체 활성화를 통한 사회문제를 해결하기 위해, 마을에 거점을 조성하여 활동을 지원하는 사업이다.

「구슬땀 마을공방」은 옥천동 도시재생활성화구역 내 철거 대상 주택을 마을 주민들의 요청으로 존치한 점, 도심지 골목 초입에 위치해 중앙시장과의 상권 연결이 용이한 점, 노인과 청년작가들의 콜라보를 통한 경제 활력 창출이 가능함 점 등을 인정받아 선정되었다. 

강릉시와 옥천동도시재생현장지원센터는 향후 공방·기프트숍 선진사례 조사를 통해 청년과 주민이 참여해 공간 설계를 하고 리모델링 공사 및 경영컨설팅, CS교육, 기술훈련 등을 통해 오는 2023년부터 본격 운영할 계획이다.

공방은 옥거리 마을관리사회적협동조합이 운영할 예정으로, 지난 3년여간 다양한 교육 및 공예 수업에 참여해 온 주민들이 조합원으로 가입해 있으며, 최근 주민 참여가 더욱 활발해지고 있다.
