[안종욱 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 29일 오후, 가평소방서는 가평소방서 대회의실에서 ‘국민과 함께한 100년, 새로운 도약 대한민국 의용소방대’를 주제로 제1회 ‘의용소방대의 날’기념식을 가졌다고 밝혔다. 

의용소방대는 지난 1958년 제정한 ‘소방법’에 규정되면서 법제화되었으며, 의용소방대의 봉사와 희생정신을 기리기 위해 의용소방대가 최초로 법률에 규정된 날인 '3월 11일'과 소방의 상징적인 숫자인 119를 합해 ‘3월 19일’로 정하여 2021년 4월 ‘의용소방대의 날’은 법정기념일로 지정되었다고 했다. 

2022년 가평의용소방대는 13개대 299명(남 139명, 여 133명)의 의용소방대원이 활동하고 있으며 화재 등 재난상황에서의 소방업무 보조는 물론 주민 생활안전을 위한 각종 지원활동에 나서고 있으며, 이날 국무총리 포상을 받은 최정숙 가평여성의용연합회장을 비롯한 32명에 대한 유공자 포상이 이뤄졌고, 이날 코로나로 참석은 못 하였지만 최춘식 국회의원, 김성기 가평군수, 김경호 도의원, 배영식 군의장, 류경숙 경찰서장, 하태훈 교육장은 영상으로 의용소방대에 대한 감사 인사를 대신했다고 전했다. 

배영환 가평소방서장은 “제 1회 의용소방대의 날을 진심으로 축하드리며, 국민 모두가 힘든 시기에 화재 현장을 비롯한 각종 재난 현장에서 지역의 안전을 지키는 파수꾼으로 국민을 위해 헌신하는 의용소방대원의 노고에 깊은 감사를 드린다”라고 전했다.
