[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 9월 29일 의정부시 가능동은 취약계층 독거노인 집 내부에 쌓여있는 각종 쓰레기를 대청소했다고 밝혔다. 

이웃주민에 의해 지난 9월 7일 발굴되어 사례관리되고 있는 대상가구는 독거노인으로 발견 당시 집안에는 각종 쓰레기가 가득하였으며, 대상자는 알콜중독 및 정신장애로 몸을 제대로 가눌 수 없는 심각한 무기력을 보여 의정부시 중독센터와 함께 대상자를 설득하여 바로 병원에 입원조치 했다고 전했다.

지난 9월 29일 가능동은 집 안에 오랫동안 방치되어 있던 각종 술병 및 음식물 쓰레기 더미를 치우기 위해 의정부 자원봉사센터의 협조와 국제자원봉사연합회 의정부지회의 도움을 받아 집안 내부를 깨끗이 청소했다고 했다. 

의정부시 송산1동에 소재하고 있는 국제자원봉사연합회 의정부지회는 일반 봉사자들이 하기 힘들어 하는 일을 도맡아 하는 봉사단체로 186명의 회원들이 봉사활동에 대한 소명의식을 가지고 관내외에서 적극적으로 활동하고 있으며, 이번에 가능동의 쓰레기 청소 도움 요청에 기꺼이 응해주었다고 했다.

조신현 의정부지회장은 “최근 코로나19로 인해 혼자 집에 있으면서 외로움 등으로 집 안에 쓰레기를 방치한 채 지내는 독거 위기가구들이 많아졌다. 취약계층들이 생활의 활력을 되찾을 수 있도록 코로나19가 빨리 종식됐으면 좋겠다”고 말했다.

홍승의 가능동장은 “보통 사람들이 하기 힘들어 하는 남의 집안 쓰레기 대청소를 기꺼이 해준 국제자원봉사연합회 의정부지회에 감사드린다. 민관이 협력하여 위기가구 집안을 대청소한 이번 사례가 우리 사회가 위기가구와 함께하는 세상을 만드는 작은 본보기가 됐으면 한다”고 말했다.

가능동주민센터는 대상자가 퇴원하면 보다 쾌적한 집안 환경에서 지낼 수 있도록 깔끄미 청소 및 방역 소독을 추가적으로 진행할 예정이라고 전했다.
