[장선희 기자 = 경기북부] 의정부시 가능동은 민선 7기 역점사업으로 추진 중인 The G&B City 프로젝트 일환으로 의정부공업고등학교 후문 벽화 100M 구간에 경관 조명 사업을 추진했다고 밝혔다. 

이 지역은 주변 4개 학교 학생 및 교사 3천여 명과 인근 아파트 주민이 다니는 보행자가 많은 곳이나, 야간에 부족한 조명 시설로 인해 안전사고 발생이 우려되는 곳이었고, 지난해 8월부터 가능동 뉴딜특화사업으로 통장협의회, 주민자치회 등 5개 단체가 참여하여 의정부중학교~의정부공업고등학교 후문 담장에 인생 테마를 주제로 300M 구간 벽화사업을 실시했다고 말했다. 

이후 경관 조명 추가 조성을 위해 예산을 확보하고 수차례 자체회의 및 의공고 행정부서와 협의를 진행하였으며, 자료협조, 현장답사 등을 통해 의정부 최초로 입체감 있는 LED 벽화를 설치했으며, 이야기가 있는 감성적인 벽화 설치를 위해 꽃, 사람, 동물, 문구 등 특색있는 그림에 입체형 조형물과 로고젝터를 제작 설치하였으며, LED 불빛으로 야간 조도와 가시성을 개선하여 주민 안전에 기여할 수 있도록 했다고 전했다.
