[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 양주시자원봉사센터는 비대면 환경정화 봉사활동 프로그램 ‘봄…나도 주워봄’이 시민들의 큰 호응 속에 활동이 마무리됐다고 밝혔다.

‘봄…나도 주워봄’은 등산, 조깅 등 운동을 하면서 쓰레기를 줍는 플로깅(plogging) 활동으로 코로나19가 길어지면서 일회용품 사용량 증가 등 환경오염에 대한 경각심이 점차 커지는 상황에서 깨끗한 환경을 만들어 나가기 위해 기획됐다고 했다.

지난 3월부터 3개월간 진행된 이번 프로그램은 초등학생부터 성인까지 약 400여명이 프로그램에 참여 신청을 하는 등 시민들의 많은 관심을 받았으며 참여자들은 옥정 중앙공원, 불곡산 등산로 등 관내에 있는 공원과 산책로를 걸으면서 주변에 버려진 쓰레기를 줍는 플로깅 활동을 진행했다고 전했다.

이번 활동에 두 아이와 함께 참여한 봉사자는 “플로깅 활동 후 깨끗해진 산책로를 보며 뿌듯해하는 아이들의 모습을 보며 보람을 느낄 수 있었다”며 “환경의 소중함에 대해서도 생각해 볼 수 있는 유익한 활동이었다”고 말했다.

박종성 센터장은 “최근 발생하고 있는 환경문제를 해결하기 위해서는 환경보호를 위한 시민들의 적극적인 참여가 필요한 상황이었으며 이번 플로깅 활동을 통해 시민들이 일상에서 환경보호를 실천하는 계기가 되었길 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 시민들이 환경문제에 관심을 갖고 지속적으로 참여할 수 있도록 다양한 활동프로그램 개발과 지원에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
