[김현우 기자 = 동두천] 동두천시는 지난 28일 국민체육센터가 산림청이 추진하는 2023년 생활권역 실외정원 조성사업 신규 대상지로 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

산림청의 생활권역 실외정원 사업은 녹색생활공간 확충 및 국·공유지의 활용도를 높이기 위해 생활권 주변의 공공·다중이용시설을 활용하여 생활정원을 조성하는 사업이다.

이번 생활권역 실외정원 조성사업은 산림청 산하 ‘한국수목원정원관리원’이 사업 시행을 맡아 2023년 내 실시설계용역을 거쳐 정원조성 공사를 완료할 계획이다.

동두천시 관계자는 "시민 및 방문객 등 많은 이용객이 찾는 국민체육센터(탑동동799) 광장에 총사업비 5억원(전액국비)을 투입해 조경수와 시민 휴게공간 등으로 이루어진 2,000㎡ 규모의 생활권역 실외정원을 조성할 계획이다" 라고 밝혔다. 

박형덕 동두천시장은 “이번 생활권역 실외정원 조성을 통해 시민을 위한 녹색생활공간이 확보될 것으로 기대되며, 앞으로도 시민 생활환경 개선을 위한 예산확보에 노력하겠다”라고 말했다.
