[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 원주시는 한국전력공사 원주지사(이하 한전)와 업무 협약을 체결하고 전력선 주변 가로수 수형조절(가지치기) 사업을 일괄 추진한다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약으로 한전은 올해 수형조절 대상지(북원로 외 9개 노선) 총 1,605본 중 822본에 대한 사업비 1억 2천 6백만 원을 부담하며, 시는 3월 말까지 작업과 주변 정리를 마칠 계획이라고 했다.

원주시는 2018년부터 가로수 관리 협약을 통해 가지치기 사업을 일괄 추진하고 있다. 가로수 관련 교육을 이수한 전문인력을 투입하고 시 공무원이 감독함으로써 가로경관 향상 등 공익적 가치를 증대시키고 있으며, 한전의 사업비 부담으로 예산 절감 효과를 보고 있다고 전했다.

또한, 한전은 사업을 시에 위탁함으로써 전력선 보호를 통한 전기 안전사고 예방뿐만 아니라 자체 행정력 소요 절감 등의 효과를 얻고 있다고 했다.

박원호 공원녹지과장은 “이번 조경사업 추진에 따른 교통혼잡을 최소화하고 안전사고가 발생하지 않도록 최선을 다하겠다.”라며, “시민분들의 양해와 협조를 부탁드린다.”라고 말했다.
