[안종욱 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 9월 1일부터 15일까지 15일간 설악면사무소는 추석명절을 맞아 선촌리에 위치한 국가유공자공설묘지 벌초작업을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

설악면은 매년 길게 자라나는 잡초로 인하여 미관이 저해되는 문제로  국가유공자공설묘지 벌초 작업을 시행해 오고 있다고 전했다.

특히 국가유공자들의 묘지 관리는 국립묘지에 이장된 경우를 제외하고는 전적으로 후손에 의해 관리되고 있는데 묘지를 관리하지 못하는 후손이 증가함에 따라 묘지 방치가 되고 있는데 설악면은 이점을 우려하여 국가유공자공설묘지에 관심을 매년 기울이고 있다고 했다. 

이범주 설악면장은 “가평군에 유일하게 국가유공자묘지가 우리면에 있는데 매년 벌초작업을 진행하여 묘역이 훼손되지 않게 신경쓰고 있으며, ‘국가를 위한 헌신을 잊지 않고 보답하는 나라 실현‘ 이라는 국가보훈처의 슬로건에 맞게 앞으로도 묘역관리에 힘쓰겠다.”고 말했다.
