[김준호 기자=동해시] (재)동해시민장학재단(이사장 심규언, 이하 재단)은 올해부터 관내 고교 3학년 졸업생 801명 전원에게 1인당 60만원씩 총 5억여원 규모의 장학금을 지급한다고 밝혔다.

동해시민장학재단 이사 4명은 관내 5개 고교 졸업식 행사장을 방문하여 장학증서 수여식을 개최하였으며, 오는 27일에 북평여고 졸업식을  마지막으로 정규학교 장학증서 수여 행사를 마무리 할 예정이다. 

장학금 신청은 오는 16일부터 재단 홈페이지를 통해 온라인으로 신청할 수 있으며, 검정고시를 통해 고교과정을 수료하는 학교밖 청소년에게도 연중 접수를 통해 장학금을 지급한다는 방침이다.

한편, 동해시민장학재단은 지난 1993년 출범했으며, 2022년 1월 장학기금 100억원 조성 목표를 달성 이후 작년 2월부터 법인체제로 동해시민장학재단을 출범해 오늘날까지 운영 해오고 있다.

심규언 장학재단 이사장은 “동해시민장학회 출범 30주년을 맞이하여 재단법인 체제로 본격 운영을 시작함에 따라 동해시 소속 고교 졸업자 전원에게 장학금을 지급하도록 장학 사업을 개편했다고 말했다. 

이어, "향후 장학금을 받은 향토인재들이 사회주도 계층으로 성장하여 다시 지역사회에 기여하고 나눔을 환원하는 선순환 구조의 동력이 될 것이라고 생각한다”고 말했다.
