[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 정선군은 무연고 사망자의 존엄성 보장을 위한 '마지막 배웅' 장례지원 사업을 추진한다고 밝혔다.

2월 14일, 정선군은 비대면으로 정선군종합사회복지관, 정선군시설관리공단, 정선군사북장례식장, 정선장례식장, 정선성당, 정암사, 아우라지교회  등 총 8개 기관 및 종교단체에서 참여한 가운데 무연고 사망자 존엄성 보장 '마지막 배웅' 장례지원 업무협약을 체결했다고 전했다. 

군에서는 고독사 및 무연고 사망자 증가에 따라 무연고 사망자가 존엄한 죽음을 맞이할 수 있도록 정선군종합사회복지관이 주관하여 고인의 종교에 따라 불교 '정암사', 천주교 '정선성당', 개신교 '아우라지교회' 3개 종교단체와 연계해 장례(추모)의식을 진행하며, 또한 협약 장례식장인 정선군사북장례식장과 정선장례식장에서는 고인의 제사상과 빈소를 마련하여 고인의 마지막이 쓸쓸하지 않도록 위로하고, 정선군시설관리공단에서는 무연고 사망자의 유품 및 전기·가스 차단 등의 시설 정리 봉사활동을 지원한다고 했다.

올해부터 시행되는 무연고 사망자 '마지막 배웅' 장례지원사업은 정선군 시책사업으로 정선군에 주민등록이 있고 관내에서 사망한 자로, 연고자가 없는 사망자, 연고자가 있으나 시신 인수 거부·기피된 사망자, 생활의 어려움으로 장례를 치를 수 없는 사망자에 대해 지원한다고 전했다. 

이종필 복지과장은 "늘어나는 무연고 사망자의 쓸쓸한 죽음을 사회문제로 인식하여 '마지막 배웅'장례지원사업에 적극 참여해준 지역의 민·관·종교단체에 감사의 인사를 전하고, 고독한 삶의 마지막 순간까지 작은 위로가 되어 줄 수 있도록 지원해 나가겠다"고 전했다.
