과수화상병은 발생 시 폐원하거나 식물방역법에 따라 집중관리 해야 하며, 사전방제를 실시하지 않으면 공적 방제 손실보상금 지급 경감기준을 적용해 보상금을 감액하거나 지급하지 않을 수 있어 사과·배 재배자는 필수로 방제해야 한다고 했다.

과수화상병은 지난 2015년 안성, 천안, 제천의 68개 농가에서 처음 발병하여 지난해에는 청주와 인접해 있는 충북 지역 506개 농가가 매몰 처리됐고, 지난 11월 현재까지 619농가, 289.4ha에서 발생해 급속도로 퍼지고 있다고 전했다.
