[서종협 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동해시(시장 심규언)가 안전한 항포구 조성 등 연안사고 예방활동으로 연안 위험구역 5개소에 안전지킴이를 배치한다고 밝혔다.

시는 평소 취업에 어려움을 겪고 있는 청년층(만19세~만34세 미만)을 연안안전지킴이로 우선 선발하여 일자리 창출에도 기여한다는 방침이다.

선발된 안전지킴이는 시민의 연안활동이 활발한 위험구역 순찰 및 계도, 안전관리시설물 점검, 해양사고 구조지원 등 항포구 및 연안해역의 안전을 책임지는 역할을 맡게 되는 한편 연안안전지킴이는 ‘연안사고 예방에 관한 법률’에 따라 연안 해역의 특성을 잘 아는 지역주민을 위촉해 연안사고 예방업무를 보조하게 할 수 있는 제도다.

김두남 해양수산과장은“연안안전지킴이의 활동을 통해 연안사고를 선제적으로 예방함으로써 시민의 생명과 재산을 보호하는데 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.
