[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 오는 5월까지, 고성군은 탐방객들에게 큰 호응을 얻고 있는 ‘금강산 화암사 숲길’ 정비사업을 추진한다고 밝혔다.

강원도 고성군 토성면에 위치한 금강산 화암사 숲길은 화암사에서 출발해 수바위, 신선대를 거쳐 다시 화암사로 돌아오는 4.1km 남짓의 산행코스로, 지난 2013년 4월 정식 등산로로 지정 고시됐다고 전했다.

이 길은 천혜의 자연풍광과 안전한 탐방환경, 유구한 역사를 간직한 천년고찰 ‘화암사’와의 연계 등 고성군을 대표할 수 있는 뛰어난 산림휴양 시설로 해마다 많은 등산객들이 찾고 있다고 했다.

군 관계자는 수암전-수바위-성인대-화암사를 연결하는 3.2㎞구간에 30,471천원의 예산으로 안전로프 및 난간, 침목계단, 야외의자, 안내판 보수등을 진행하여 등산객들에게 편의를 제공할 계획이라고 전했다.

한편 천년 고찰 화암사는 신라 혜공왕(서기 769년)때 창건된 사찰로, 창건 이후 5차례의 화재로 설법전 1동만이 원형을 보존하고 있었으나 1991년 제17회 세계잼버리 이 후 널리 알려지면서 사세가 크게 확장됐고, 수바위가 눈앞에 보이고, 신선봉과 잼버리장, 설악산 울산바위, 콘도미니엄 등이 주변에 밀집되어 있어 돌아볼 곳이 많다고 했다.
