의정부시는 지난해 취약계층의 생계안정과 코로나19로 인한 경기침체 및 고용위기 극복을 위해 추진하는 공공일자리를 활용해 부용시민정원을 조성했다고 했다.

안병용 의정부시장은 “부용시민정원은 희망일자리사업에 참여한 여러분이 직접 내 손으로 씨를 뿌리고 꽃들을 식재하여 더욱 의미가 깊다”라며 “부용시민정원은 일자리와 더불어 시민들에게 아름다움과 몸과 마음을 힐링할 수 있는 특색있는 공간으로 시민의 고용안정을 위한 다양한 공공일자리 제공을 위해 노력하고 도심 속 자연을 느낄 수 있는 공원조성 등 행복하고 아름다운 의정부를 위해 최선을 다하겠다.”라고 밝혔다.
