이 시장은 2023년 시정운영 5대 추진전략으로 ▷도약하는 활력 넘치는 지역경제 ▷다이나믹 스포츠 산업 도시로의 도약 ▷지역특화 관광․문화 산업 육성 ▷차별화된 교육, 따뜻한 복지도시 구현 ▷시민중심행복도시 구현을 내세웠다.

이상호 태백시장은 ‘작지만 생동감 넘치는 힘있는 강한 도시’ 건설의 태백시 청사진을 제시하면서 “대규모 국책사업이 본격적으로 추진되는 2025년에는 태백시에 1조원이 풀린다”며 “민선8기 발로 뛰는 적극행정, 강력한 추진력으로 예산 5천억 원 시대를 실현하고, ‘내일이 더 좋은 도시, 시민이 행복한 도시, 삶과 활력이 넘치는 도시’ 태백 건설을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
