[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 10월 16일 의정부시는 '제5회 의정부시장배 어울림수영대회'가 의정부시스포츠센터 수영장에서 개최됐다고 밝혔다.

이번 대회는 고양, 구리, 양주, 하남, 의정부시 경기도 5개 시군에서 100여 명의 수영 선수가 참가했으며, 3년 만에 개최되는 이번 대회는 참가자 및 장애 특성을 고려해 개회식이 없는 대회로 운영해 눈길을 끌었다.

한편, 이날 의정부시 소속으로 어울림 수영대회에 참여한 김주원 선수는 물속에서 뇌병변 장애를 느끼지 못할 정도로 비장애인 선수와 어깨를 나란히 하는 멋진 수영 실력을 보여줘 많은 박수를 받기도 했다.

김흥수 의정부시장애인체육회 사무국장은 “의정부시를 방문해주신 수영을 사랑하는 선수 및 보호자, 관계자 여러분께 진심으로 감사드린다. 처음으로 의정부시스포츠센터에서 개최되는 수영대회는 많은 것을 시사했고 하얀 물보라를 가르는 수영 선수들은 정말 멋지고 훌륭했다”며, “오늘 저는 희망을 보았고, 수영 발전을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
