[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 원주지방환경청은 지난 7월 3일 강원도 동해시 망상해변에서 청년 기후환경활동가를 대상으로 건강한 바다의 중요성을 알리기 위한 비치코밍 행사를 지원하고, 환경교육과 홍보캠페인을 전개했다고 밝혔다.

비치코밍(Beachcombing)은 해변을 뜻하는 비치(BEACH)와 빗질을 뜻하는 코밍(COMBING)이 합쳐진 단어로 빗질하듯이 해안에 버려지거나 떠밀려 온 쓰레기를 줍는 활동이라고 했다.

이번 행사는 (사)에코맘코리아에서 운영하는 글로벌 에코리더*를 대상으로 1부에서는 비치코밍으로 운영했으며, 2부는 환경 전문가의 특강 등 환경교육으로 진행했다고 전했다.

* 글로벌 에코리더는 기후위기와 탄소중립 대응 실천을 위하여 청년층을 대상으로 한 연간 환경교육 프로그램으로 유엔환경계획(UNEP), 환경부, LG생활건강이 함께한다고 했다.

한편, 원주지방환경청은 2050탄소중립 실현을 위해 국민을 대상으로 환경교육을 운영하고 있으며, 앞으로도 유아 및 초중고 학생 외에 전연령층을 대상으로 한 환경교육을 확대해 나갈 계획이라고 전했다.

또한, 공식 인스타그램 등 소셜미디어를 활용하여 해양생태계의 중요성과 탄소중립 생활 실천 내용이 담긴 슬기로운 친환경 휴가생활 등 카드뉴스를 제작․배포하는 온라인 캠페인을 운영한다고 했다.

윤용희 기획평가국장은 “이번 행사를 통해 청년 기후환경활동가들이 중심이 되어 건강한 해양생태계의 중요성과 기후위기에 대해 알리는 계기가 되길 바라며, 앞으로도 환경교육과 홍보캠페인을 지속적으로 진행할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
