[남상훈 기자 = 원주] 오는 8일 원주지방환경청이 석회석 광산 개발지역의 생태복원을 위해 멸종위기 Ⅱ급 야생식물인 제비동자꽃 100개체, 날개하늘나리 50개체 식재 행사를 추진한다고 밝혔다.

식재 대상지역은 강릉시 자병산 석회석 광산 복구지역으로 석회암 지대에서 잘 자랄 수 있는 식물로 서식지외보전기관인 강원도 자연환경연구공원에서 인공증식한 멸종위기 야생식물 날개하늘나리 등 2종을 분양받아 식재한다.

원주지방환경청은 지난 2017년부터 강원도자연환경연구공원, 한라시멘트(주)와 함께 업무협약을 맺고 석회석 광산 복구지역의 안정적인 생태복원을 위해 지속적으로 사업을 추진하고 있다. 그동안 멸종위기 야생식물 Ⅱ급 4종 총 820개체를 식재고 모니터링을 실시한 결과, 복원 후 4~5년이 지나 안정적 활착을 보인 대다수의 개체들은 개화‧결실이 이루어지는 등 정상적인 생육상태를 보이며 석회석 광산 복구지에 잘 적응하고 있는 것으로 확인되었다.

이상철 자연환경과장은 “멸종위기 야생식물 식재 후에도 지속적인 관리와 모니터링으로 폐광산지역의 자연상태 복원을 위해 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
