천문대는 오후 2시부터 밤 11시까지 운영되며, 야간 관측 프로그램은 지난 14일부터 예약접수가 시작됐고, 천문대는 지난해 과학기술정보통신부가 실시한 지역 공립과학관 전시 개선 지원 사업 공모에서 대상 과학관으로 선정됐으며, 이에 따라 지원받은 국비 3억 원과 군비 5억 원 등 총 8억 원의 사업비를 투입해 개선 사업을 진행해왔다고 했다.
