[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 평창군은 지난해 5월부터 전용서체 개발을 착수하여 평창평화체와 평창체 4종 개발을 완료했다고 밝혔다.

이번에 개발된 서체는 제목용인 평창평화체 2종과 본문용인 평창체 2종 총 4종으로, 2018 평창 동계올림픽대회의 소중한 유산인 평화를 확산하고 그 뜻을 되새기는 의미로 빛을 형상화한 디자인으로 제작되었다고 했다. 

평창군 전용서체 개발은 지난 2020년도 시책보고회 시 발굴된 사업으로 디지털 시대에 서체를 활용한 지역 홍보와 동계올림픽 유산인 평화의 가치를 확산하기 위하여 추진된 사업으로, 산업통상자원부 산하의 준정부기관인 한국디자인진흥원이 개발을 진행하여 왔으며, 서체 디자인의 전문성과 완성도를 높이기 위하여 윤명조, 윤고딕 등 윤폰트로 대표되는 ㈜윤디자인그룹이 지정사업자로 참여했다고 전했다.

평창군은 누구나 무료로 사용할 수 있도록 군 홈페이지에 공개하였으며, 문서 및 책자, 안내판, 도시경관 등 실생활에서 두루 쓰일 수 있도록 다양한 홍보방안을 강구하여 실행할 예정이며, 아울러, 전용서체 개발로 간판, 안내판, 조형물 등 효과적인 도시시각 디자인에 기여하고, 평화도시로서의 위상제고와 정체성 확립, 차별화된 군 이미지 개선과 호감도 상승에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다고 했다.

김명기 기획실장은 “최근 서체 개발을 통한 브랜드 홍보전략이 디지털 세대인 젊은층에서 많은 호응을 얻고 있는 것으로 알고 있다”며, “이번에 개발된 전용서체를 통해 평창을 널리 알릴 수 있도록 다양한 홍보방안을 강구하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
