군은 1급 발암물질인 석면으로부터 군민 건강을 지키고 슬레이트 처리 비용의 부담을 덜어주고자 올해 총 11억 3,793만원의 사업비를 확보했고, 지원 대상은 슬레이트 처리 사업의 경우 주택 및 부속건물(창고), 비주택(축사 등)이며, 주택과 비주택 슬레이트 처리 241동, 취약계층 및 일반 지붕개량 40동 등 총 281동을 지원할 계획이라고 전했다.

주택은 가구당 최대 352만원, 비주택은 면적에 따라 최대 540만원을 지원하며, 각 읍·면 행정복지센터로 오는 2월 18일까지 신청하면 되며, 우선순위에 따라 지원 대상자를 선정하고, 민간위탁업체 선정 후 사업을 추진할 예정이라고 했다.

군은 또 지난해 조사 완료된 보관·방치 슬레이트 5,584㎡에 대해서도 총 7,400만원의 처리 비용을 지원할 계획이라고 했다.
