전국 시 단위 평균 7.96점보다 0.22점 높은 점수로 강원도 내에서는 원주, 삼척, 속초, 태백, 양양 5개 시군이 가장 높은 2등급을 받았으며, 국민권익위원회 종합청렴도(10점 만점)는 외부청렴도 설문 점수 73.5%와 내부청렴도 설문 점수 26.5%를 합쳐 평가한다고 했다.

원주시의 경우 내부청렴도는 지난해 7.96점보다 다소 낮은 7.33점을 받았지만, 외부청렴도에서 지난해 7.18점 대비 18.2% 오른 8.49점을 받은 것이 주된 상승 요인이라고 했다. 

조종용 원주시 부시장은 “5급 이상 공무원을 대상으로 청렴도를 평가해 간부 공무원의 청렴 의식을 높이고, 신고자를 추적할 수 없는 익명 신고 시스템을 활성화해 공직자 비리 신고를 받는 등 청렴한 공직사회를 만들기 위해 노력했다.”며, “간부 공무원부터 청렴 의식을 높이고 공직자 비리는 예외 없이 엄중한 처벌로 다스려 부패 없는 원주시를 만들겠다.”라고 의지를 표했다.
