[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 10월 18일 14시, 원주지방환경청은 청사 회의실에서 삼표자원개발(주), 한국광해광업공단 강원지사와 함께 '1사 1멸종위기종 서식지 복원사업' 업무협약을 체결한다고 밝혔다. 

'1사 1멸종위기종 서식지 복원사업'은 개발사업 등으로 서식지가 줄어든 멸종위기 야생생물들을 위해 지난 2012년도부터 민간기업들과 함께 추진하고 있는 사업이라고 전했다.

원주지방환경청은 그동안 한라시멘트 등 11개 사업장과 같이 멸종위기종을 위한 인공둥지 마련, 먹이 공급, 서식지 조성 등을 통해 멸종위기종의 보금자리 확대에 기여해왔으며, 사업장 주변에서 종적을 감췄던 하늘다람쥐(멸종위기 야생생물 Ⅱ급), 원앙(천연기념물) 등 다양한 야생동물의 서식이 확인되는 성과를 거둔 바 있다고 했다.

이번 업무협약을 통해 '1사 1멸종위기종 서식지 복원사업'에 참여하는 사업장은 총 13개소로 늘어나게 되며, 사업장들은 원주지방환경청의 행정적 지원, 전문가 자문 등을 통해 사업장별 특성에 맞는 서식지 복원사업을 추진하게 됐다고 말했다.

이창흠 원주지방환경청장은 “기업들의 자발적 참여에 감사드리며, 앞으로도 멸종위기종의 안정적인 서식지 확대를 위해 다양한 방안을 마련해 나갈 계획”이라고 밝혔다.
