[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 9월 9일 의정부시 안병용 시장은 임기를 마친 14개동 주민자치위원장에게 공로패를 수여했다고 밝혔다.

이날 공로패 수여식은 의정부시 주민자치회 출범에 따라 주민자치위원회가 자동 해산되어 임기 만료된 14개동 주민자치위원장에게 공로패를 전달하고 그동안의 노고에 감사하는 마음을 전달했다고 했다. 

안병용 의정부시장은 “주민자치위원회는 지난 20여 년 동안 주민자치센터 활성화, 주민 복지 증진, 도농 교류 등 다양한 사업을 추진해왔으며 주민자치위원장님들이 지역사회 핵심리더로서 우리 시 주민자치발전에 큰 역할을 해주셔서 진심으로 감사드린다”며 “이제 의정부시 주민자치가 한 단계 더 도약하기 위해 지난 9월 1일 14개동에 주민자치회를 구성함에 따라 주민자치위원회는 해산되지만, 계속적인 관심과 지지, 참여를 통해 주민자치회가 성공적으로 정착될 수 있도록 힘써주시기를 기대한다”라고 밝혔다.

한편, 주민자치회는 지방자치분권 및 지방행정체제 개편에 관한 특별법에 따라 설치하는 동(洞)의 주민대표기구로서 주민총회 개최, 자치계획 수립 등 주민자치업무와 지자체 업무 수탁 등 다양한 업무를 수행하게 되며, 의정부시 14개동 주민자치회는 올해까지 임원진을 새롭게 구성하고 2022년부터 본격적인 주민자치 사업을 추진할 예정이라고 했다.
