[서종협 기자 = 영월군] 영월군(군수 최명서)에 따르면, 지난 8.27일 팔도장터 열차를 이용하여 청량리역에서 출발한 200명의 관광객이 고씨굴과 서부시장을 방문하였으며, 지난 9월 24일에는 서울역에서 출발한 임시열차 이용객 240명이 장릉, 청령포 등 관광지를 다녀갔다고 전했다.

이미 현지인 추천 관광지로 입소문난 영월 서부시장은 전통시장을 찾는 팔도장터 열차가 운행중이며, 2021 컨슈머인사이트 전통시장 여행자원 추천율에서도 속초, 정선과 더불어 3대 재래시장에 선정된 바 있다. 

영월군은 열차를 이용하여 다양한 관광지를 방문할 수 있다는 장점이 부각되면서, 버스로 한꺼번에 이동하기 어려운 대규모 단체관광객들에게 열차여행지로 인기다. 10월 이후에도 영월을 찾는 임시열차가 줄이어 예약되어 있는 상황이다.

영월군 관계자는 ‘한국관광공사와 강원관광재단, 영월군이 협업하여 11월 운행예정인 반려견 전용열차 등 특색있는 기차여행 상품을 준비하고 있다. 또한, 열차를 이용하여 영월을 방문하는 여행객들을 위한 다양한 체험프로그램을 발굴하고, 지역여행사 이용 인센티브 지급확대 등 관광객과 주민이 상생하는 관광시책을 지속적으로 확장해 나갈 계획’이라고 말했다.
