장마기간 내에는 높은 습도와 배수불량 등의 사유로 수목의 활력도가 떨어지고 각종 해충(진딧물, 깍지벌레 등)의 피해와 병해(뿌리썩음병, 녹병 등)가 발생하고 있어 우리들에게 시원한 그늘과 깨끗한 환경을 주는 소중한 수목에 대한 관리가 더욱 필요한 시기라고 했다.

봄철에 수목을 식재하거나 이식한 경우에는 수목의 뿌리가 정착할 수 있도록 유공관, 지주목 설치 등의 조치가 필요하고, 이식 후 수목의 수세가 약한 틈을 타서 발생하는 소나무좀과 같은 천공성 해충들의 피해예방에 힘써야 한다고 했다.
