[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 3월 16일, (사)대한노인회 홍천읍 분회는 홍천읍 행정복지센터에서 어르신 교통안전 지킴이 깃발 설치 행사를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

홍천경찰서 교통관리계 지도에 따라 실시된 행사에는 한인용 홍천읍장 및 이장 협의회, 새마을 협의회, 새마을 부녀회, 생활개선회, 홍천읍 분회 이사, 경로당 회장 등이 참석해 노약자 교통안전의 취약성과 중요성을 인식하고 사고 예방을 위한 다양한 의견을 교환했다고 전했다.

행사에서는 다리가 불편해 녹색 보행신호등 점등 시간 내 횡단보도를 미처 건너지 못하는 어르신들을 포함한 노약자들을 위해 사전 제작된 교통안전 깃발을 횡단보도 좌우측에 꽂아 놓고 이 깃발을 들고 건너는 방법을 안내했으며, 깃발은 운전자로 하여금 쉽게 횡단보도를 이용하는 사람을 인식하고 멈추게 하는 역할을 담당, 보행자 교통사고 예방에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다고 했다.

깃발은 현재 홍천읍 행정복지센터 앞 건널목 2개소에 시범 설치해 운용 중이며, 읍내 교통안전에 취약한 지역으로 확대 보급할 예정이라고 전했다.
