[장선희 기자 = 경기북부] 의정부시는 보건환경연구원과 함께 관내 토양오염 우려지역에 대해 토양오염 실태조사를 실시한다고 밝혔다.

이번 조사는 오는 5월 20일부터 5월 21일까지 이틀간 토양이 오염될 확률이 높은 우려지역에 대해 산업단지 및 공장지역 2곳, 폐기물처리 및 재활용 관련지역 1곳, 교통관련시설지역 2곳, 어린이놀이시설지역 4곳, 반환미군기지1곳 총 10곳에 대해 진행되며, pH, 중금속, 불소, 시안 등 총 22개 항목에 대해 조사한다고 했다.

검사 결과 토양오염 우려 기준을 초과한 지역은 오염 원인자나 토지 소유자에게 정밀조사를 명령하고, 토양오염이 확인되면 정화명령과 복원사업을 추진케 한다고 말했다.

토양오염은 지하수를 통해 수질오염, 휘발성 오염물질 등을 통해 유해가스가 발생되면 대기오염까지 야기할 수 있기 때문에 눈에 보이지는 않지만 정확한 검사가 필요하다고 했다. 

이번 조사는 토양을 채취할 때는 표토뿐만 아니라 심토, 한 지점이 아닌 여러 지점을 채취해 혼합토양을 검사하기 때문에 정확한 오염도를 파악할 수 있어 토양오염 확산을 예방할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것이라고 말했다. 

의정부시는 토양오염은 다른 오염에 비해 복구에 많은 비용과 시간이 소요되고 있어 선재 대응에 오염 여부를 조기 확인할 수 있도록 지속적으로 토양오염실태조사를 실시할 방침이라 전했다.
