청년농업사관학교는 포천시와 5, 6군단과의 협력으로 군 전역 예정자 및 전역자를 대상으로 교육생을 모집해 영농창업의 기회를 제공하고 포천시로 영농정착을 유도하는 한편, 장기적으로는 농촌인구 증대에 기여하고자 올해부터 신설된 교육과정이라고 했다.

교육생은 앞으로 25주간 작목별 재배기술, 농촌융복합산업화 기획, 농업법률, 영농정착 미래설계 등의 체계적인 교육을 통해 농업인으로써의 기본 역량을 갖추게 되고, 농작업 기계화 및 스마트팜 등 농업의 현대화라는 시대적 상황에 맞추어 농기계, 드론 자격증을 취득하는 등 농촌을 이끌어갈 핵심 인재로 거듭나게 될 것이라고 했다.
