[장선희 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 3월 29일부터 4월 30일까지 동두천시와 동두천시자원봉사센터가 어린이보호구역내 불법주정차로 인한 교통사고 예방을 위한 홍보에 적극적으로 나서고 있다고 밝혔다.

자원봉사센터에 봉사활동을 신청한 21명의 중·고등학생 및 대학생들과 함께 교육청 앞 송내1 공영주차장을 이용하는 운전자와 주변 시민을 대상으로 홍보물을 배부하면서, 어린이보호구역 불법주정차 근절을 위해 노력하고 있다고 말했다.
 

특히, 오는 5월 11일부터는 도로교통법 개정으로, 어린이보호구역 불법주정차 과태료가 승용차 기준 현행 8만원에서 12만원으로 일반도로에 비해 3배가 오르는 만큼, 시민들의 각별한 주의가 요구된다고 밝혔다.
 

시 관계자는 “어린이보호구역은 어린이 보행 안전지대이니, 어린이들의 안전을 위해 주정차 금지 등 안전수칙 준수가 일상의 문화가 될 수 있도록, 시민들의 적극적인 참여와 동참을 부탁드린다.”고 전했다.
