[김현우 기자 = 춘천] 지난 11월 30일 춘천시가 세계태권도연맹(WT) 본부 유치를 위해 강원도에 의향서를 제출했다고 19일 밝혔다.

지난 16일부터 18일까지 ‘2022 WT 옥타곤 다이아몬드 게임’이 개최됐으며, 이날 육동환 춘천시장과 강원도 관계자들은 조정원 총재와 만나 본부 유치에 관한 면담을 가지면서 본격적으로 유치 활동에 나선 것이다.

강원도 박찬흥 위원은 지난 제3차 본회의에서 5분 자유발언을 통해 “세계태권도연맹 본부의 강원도 유치를 주장한다. 국제올림픽위원회 산하 단체 중 유일하게 대한민국에 본부를 두고 있는 세계태권도연맹을 유치하면서 태권도 아카데미와 사관학교 운영, 태권도 대회 개최뿐만 아니라 태권도 관련 기업 및 연구소도 몰려올 것이다. 이를 통해 세계 태권도인들이 강원도를 찾아 관광과 산업이 발전할 것이다”라며 조속히 강원도 차원의 유치추진위원회를 구성해야 한다고 밝혔다.

한편, 연맹은 2023년까지 유치 의사가 있는 지역으로부터 유치의향서를 받아 후보지를 선정할 예정이다.
