[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 20일 가평군이 주최하고 (사)대한노인회 가평군지회가 주관하는 제26회 노인의 날 기념 체육대회가 개최됐다. 

노인의 날 기념 체육대회는 2018년을 마지막으로 그간 아프리카 돼지열병 및 코로나-19 상황 등으로 인해 매번 개최되지 못하다가, 올해 4년 만에 다시 열린다는 점에서 그 의미가 더욱 뜻깊을 것으로 사료된다.

체육대회는 총 5개 종목(게이트볼, 그라운드 골프, 한궁, 바둑, 장기)으로 구성됐으며, 대회 첫날인 20일 11시 가평군수가 직접 참석해 개회사를 전한 기념식을 시작으로 21일까지 이틀 동안 종목에 따라 가평종합운동장야구장 및 취업센터에서 각각 진행된다.  

해당 행사를 통해 선수단 및 내빈 등을 포함한 약 300명의 가평 지역 어르신들이 한자리에 모여 함께 어우러질 수 있는 화합의 장을 마련함은 물론 어르신들의 협동심·자긍심을 고취하여 노익장을 보여줄 수 있는 기회가 될 것으로 기대된다.

아울러, 이전 노인의 날 기념 체육대회가 일반적으로 기념식과 같은 날 병행되었던 것과 달리 금번 행사는 코로나 예방을 위한 참석자 분산을 위하여 노인의 날 기념식(10.14.예정)과 분리되어 별도로 진행됐다. 

가평군 및 (사)대한노인회 가평군지회는 행사 종료 시까지 참가자 안전 및 방역 준수 등에 최선을 다할 계획임을 밝혔다.
