[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 3월 18일 오후 3시, 횡성군은 우천면 우항리에서 ‘횡성네덜란드 문화교류센터’개관식을 개최한다고 밝혔다.

횡성은 6·25 한국전쟁 최대 격전지 중 한 곳으로, 당시 참여했던 네덜란드 군인들을 기리기 위한 참전기념비가 우천면 우항리에 위치하고 있으며, 횡성군은 역사적 의미가 깊은 우천면의 장소성을 널리 알리고 특색을 활용하기 위해 지난해 테마공원 조성, 주민주도형 문화교류센터 조성 등의 내용을 담은 네덜란드 테마마을 기본구상 용역을 완료하였다고 전했다. 

그에 따른 사업추진으로 네덜란드와의 문화교류 활성화 및 주민 소통증진을 위해 횡성네덜란드 문화교류센터를 임시 운영하게 되었고, 센터는 우천면 우항리 750-2에 문을 열었으며, 6․25 한국전쟁 유품 및 사진 전시장, 회의장으로 조성되어 문화교류 활동, 문화·관광 등 여러 분야에 걸쳐 홍보할 수 있는 다목적장소로 활용할 예정이라고 했다.

횡성군은 이번 임시 운영을 통해 주민의 시설 운영 역량을 강화하고 운영 성과를 바탕으로 보완·개선하여 향후 맞춤형 횡성네덜란드 문화교류센터를 건립할 계획이며, 또한, 현재 네덜란드를 테마로 설계용역 중인 스마트 복합쉼터를 조성하고, 튤립 소공원, 테마공원을 유치하는 등 특색있는 네덜란드 테마마을로 발전시켜나갈 계획이라고 전했다.

조형용 미래전략과장은 “현재는 임시 운영이지만 네덜란드와의 상호교류가 확대되고 정식 교류센터 조성 및 지역발전을 견인할 수 있는 발판이 될 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
