가평군은 천혜의 자연환경으로 다양한 야생동물의 서식지로, 야생동물과 사람이 공존하고 있는 지역이며, 매년 약 60여 마리 정도 구조되는 야생동물을 치료·재활·자연방사 할 수 있도록 하는 야생동물 재활생태공간 구축과 이와 연계하는 소생물 서식처 및 생태숲, 생태학습장 구성의 세부 사업계획을 오는 3월까지 수립하고 환경부 승인을 득하여 올해 내 사업을 완료할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

군 관계자는 “이번 사업으로 지역 주민들에게 휴식공간을 제공하고 생태환경학습·교육의 장으로 활용될 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 자연환경보전에도 적극 기여할 수 있을 것이며, 가평을 찾는 방문객들에게 관내 생태관광 자원과의 연계 및 새로운 볼거리를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다”고 말했다.
