[김현우 기자 = 가평] 가평군은 보훈가족이 중심이 되는 보훈사업을 추진한다고 30일 밝혔다. 

가평군은 나라를 위해 헌신한 국가유공자의 명예와 자긍심을 고취시키고 호국영령들의 숭고한 희생에 보답하기 위해 올해 19억여 원을 들여 다양한 보훈사업을 추진한다.

먼저 명예로운 삶을 위한 보장과 복지서비스를 위해 참전․보훈 명예수당 및 참전유공자 배우자 복지수당, 국가유공자 생활보조수당, 경기도 참전명예수당, 국가유공자 사망위로금, 광복회원 위로금, 독립유공자 의료비 및 묘지 관리비 등을 지원하고 전적비 순례, 명절 위문품 및 단체별 보훈사업 등 8개 보훈단체 활성화 대책에 나선다.

이와 함께 보훈회관 관리 운영을 비롯해 용문산 전투 전적비, 현충탑 및 캐나다․호주․뉴질랜드 참전 기념비 등 주요 기념비 시설보수와 영연방 참전비 구조 안전진단 용역을 실시하고 관내 9개 전적비에 대한 연간 시설․조경관리 용역 및 현충시설 노후 안내표지판 교체 등을 추진한다.

특히 가평읍 상색리 일원에 월남참전기념탑을 건립할 예정으로 이곳에는 주탑 및 명비 등이 설치된다. 앞서 군은 가평의병 3.1항일운동 및 영연방 한국전 참전 기념행사, 용문산 전투 및 현충일 추념행사 등을 열어 희생과 공헌에 대한 선양행사를 추진하기도 했다.  

지난 5월에는 정전 70주년을 기념해 영연방참전비 일원에서 국가보훈부 주관 UN참전 자전거동맹로드 행사와 캐나다 수교 60주년 기념 ‘쥐스탱 트뤼드’캐내다 총리 방문행사도 함께 추진함으로써 국제보훈정신 확산에 기여했다.

아울러 금년 4월부터는 국가유공자와 유족의 명예를 선양하고 안정된 삶을 지원하고자 참전(보훈) 명예수당을 10만원에서 17만원으로 7만원 인상해 매월 지급하고 있다.

가평군은 '국가보훈대상자 예우 및 지원에 관한 조례'를 일부개정 공포해 보훈수당 인상 근거를 마련하고 관련 조례에 따라 참전유공자, 전몰군경, 애국지사, 무공수훈자 등 보훈대상자 및 유족에 대한 차별을 최소화할 있도록 보훈명예수당과 배우자 복지수당을 참전명예수당 인상액과 동일한 금액인 17만원으로 70% 인상했다.

가평군은 지난해에도 1천860여명에게 각종 수당을 지원하고 국가유공자 40여명에게 사망위로금을 전달했다.

가평군 관계자는 “국가유공자 예우에 소홀함이 없도록 최선을 다하겠다”며 “군민들이 참여하는 보훈 선양행사로 순국선열의 숭고한 정신을 계승해 국가유공자에 대한 존경과 예우문화를 확산하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 관내에는 한국전쟁(6.25전쟁) 가평전투를 기념하는 영연방(영국․캐나다․호주․뉴질랜드) 및 미국 참전비 등이 있으며, 캐나다 참전 가평전투지 숲길과 가평전투의 길이 올해 조성되는 등 한국전 참전국과의 우호증진을 강화하는 계기를 마련하고 있다.
