[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시는 12일 오후 1시30분 강릉평화의소녀상이 있는 경포 3․1독립만세운동 기념공원에서 제5회 일본군위안부 피해자 기림의 날 기념행사를 개최한다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 일본군위안부 피해자의 용기와 투쟁 정신을 기리고 피해자의 명예 회복 및 올바른 역사관 정립을 위해 준비되었으며, 기념사, 헌화, 평화비 및 추모편지 낭독, 기념공연 순으로 진행된다. 

이날은 일본군위안부 문제를 국내외에 알리고 피해자를 기리기 위해 제정한 국가기념일로 2018년부터 8월 14일로 지정됐으며, 강릉시는 일본군위안부 피해자의 목소리를 기억하고 공감대를 형성하기 위해 매년 기림의 날 행사를 개최했다.

강릉평화의소녀상은 2015년 8월 광복 70년을 맞아 강원도 최초로 경포 3․1독립만세운동 기념공원에 건립했으며, 사)강릉여성의전화는 매월 마지막 주 수요일에 집회를 열어 일본의 사과와 피해 할머니들의 인권 및 명예회복을 위한 활동을 이어오고 있다.

강릉시 관계자는“일본군위안부 피해자들의 아픔을 깊이 공감하고 기억하는 시간이 되길 바라며, 피해자의 명예와 존엄이 회복되고, 시민들이 올바른 역사의식을 함양할 수 있는 기회가 되길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
