[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 속초시가 설악동의 관문에 위치한 교량에 대한 재가설 공사를 본격화한다고 밝혔다.

재가설공사를 실시하는 설악교(연장 105m, 폭 10.5m)는 1978년 준공 이후 40년 이상 경과된 노후교량으로 정밀안전진단 실시결과 구조물의 중대한 결함이 발생하여‘E등급’판정을 받아 작년 5월부터 전면 통제 중인 상태라고 했다.

속초시는 해당 교량의 재가설을 위하여 자연재해 위험 개선지구로 지정한 후 국ㆍ도비 36억 원(60%)을 포함한 총 60억 원을 투입하여 쌍천의 하천정비 기본계획에 맞추어 길이 108m, 폭 12m로 설치하며, 교량에는 경관조명·포토존·조형물 등을 설치하여 설악동을 방문하는 관광객들에게 새로운 볼거리를 제공함으로써 설악동 관광활성화에 기여할 것으로 전망하고 있다고 했다.

속초시는 설악교 재가설 공사를 올해 7월 착공하여 내년 6월까지 완료한다는 계획이라고 전했다.

속초시 관계자는“설악교 통행제한으로 인하여 지역주민에게 많은 불편을 드린 만큼 안전하고 신속하게 교량을 재가설하여 조속히 개통될 수 있도록 최선의 노력을 다하겠으며, 개통 전까지 통행에 다소 불편함이 있더라도 많은 이해와 적극적인 협조를 부탁드린다.”라고 말했다.
