[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동해시는 문화체육관광부와 한국관광공사의 올해 신규 웰니스 관광지에 ‘동해보양온천컨벤션호텔’이 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

‘추천 웰니스 관광지’는 여행을 통해 힐링을 추구하는 체험관광 트렌드에 맞춰 웰니스 관광의 우수모델을 제시, 육성하기 위해 지난 2017년부터 한국관광공사에서 추진 중이며, 지난 2018 평창동계올림픽 공식 숙박업소였던 동해보양온천컨벤션호텔은 바로 앞에 동해시 대표 관광지인 망상해변이 있어, 천혜의 자연환경을 느끼며 몸과 마음을 힐링할 수 있다는 장점이 있다고 했다.

특히, 올해 동해시와 동해보양온천컨벤션호텔은 오향체험과 아쿠아 피트니스, 건강 프로그램을 새로이 보완하고, 호텔이 보유한 온천수인 ‘약천골 지장수’가 지닌 효능을 적극 홍보해 웰니스 관광지에 신규 선정됐으며, 웰니스 관광지로 선정된 동해보양온천은 향후 관광시설 컨설팅과 관광객 수용 여건 개선사업, 국내·외 홍보활동, 관광 상품화 등을 지원받고 이번 선정으로 동해시는 지난 2018년 선정된 동해 무릉건강숲에 이어 관내 두 곳의 웰니스 관광시설을 보유하게 돼 힐링 관광 도시로서의 브랜드 가치를 드높일 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다고 전했다.
