[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 3월 31일, 재단법인 평창평화센터가 평창군청 대회의실에서 출범식을 개최하며 첫발을 내디뎠다고 밝혔다. 

이날 출범식은 한왕기 평창군수와 전 여성가족부 장관인 이정옥 이사를 비롯한 재단 관계자와 지역 유관기관 및 주민대표 등이 참석한 가운데 진행됐다고 전했다. 

재단법인 평창평화센터는 그간의 올림픽 스포츠 시설활용에 집중된 동계올림픽 유산사업을 다변화하고, 유산사업의 공공성과 함께 전문성을 확보하기 위해 평창군 출연기관으로 설립되었으며, 군은 지난 2021년 5월 조례를 제정하여 재단 설립 및 운영의 근거를 마련하고, 9월 설립 등기와 2022년 2월 직원을 채용하여 재단의 운영준비를 마쳤다고 했다. 

향후 재단은 국내외 도시 간 네트워크 구축, 국제회의·전시 등 MICE 사업 유치와 운영, 지역주민과 국내외 청년 대상 교육사업, 오는 2024년 완공되는 평화 테마파크 운영 등 유산사업을 다변화하여 올림픽 개최도시라는 평창의 위상을 높여가고, 다양한 사업을 통해 지역의 경제 활성화와 함께 주민들이 생활 만족도를 높여 나갈 계획이라고 전했다.

재단 관계자는“평창평화센터를 통해 후대에 넘겨줄 올림픽 평화 유산사업을 지속발굴하고 이를 통해 지역발전을 앞당겨 나가겠다.”고 의지를 밝혔다.
