[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 양주시는 지난해 2월부터 실시한 사회복지시설 전기료 감면 신청 안내 조치로 상당한 예산 절감 효과를 거두었다고 밝혔다.

한국전력공사에서 2007년부터 시행하는 전기요금약관에 따라 사회복지시설은 20~30%의 전기요금 감면 혜택을 받을 수 있으나, 그간 홍보 부족으로 신청률이 저조했다고 했다.

또한 대다수의 사회복지시설은 중앙정부와 지자체 예산재원으로 마련된 보조금이 지원되는 시설인 만큼 매년 지속적으로 예산을 낭비하고 있다는 지적이 이어졌다고 했다.

이에 양주시는 전기료 감면 신청을 적극 독려하기 위해 관내 모든 사회복지시설을 대상으로 개별 유선 안내를 실시, 2020년 2월 이전 개소한 사회복지시설 중 계량기가 미분리된 84개소를 제외한 총 566개소의 사회복지시설이 전기료 감면 혜택을 받을 수 있도록 조치했다고 전했다.

이번 조치에 따라 월 1,000kWh의 전기를 사용하는 시설의 경우 기존 6만원에서 감면 후 4만 5천으로 줄어들며 매달 20%~30%의 감면 혜택을 볼 수 있게 된다고 했다.

2021년 7월 현재 신규 개소한 시설 11개소를 포함해 관내 사회복지시설은 총 661개소로 전기요금 감면 신청 홍보·안내로 절감되는 전기요금과 보조금은 상당할 것으로 전망된다고 했다. 

양주시 관계자는 “불필요하게 낭비되는 예산 절감을 위해 지속적으로 사회복지시설 전기료 감면 신청 안내를 할 예정이며 ”또한 계량기 미분리 시설에 대해서도 분리비용을 지원하는 등 사회복지시설이 혜택을 볼 수 있도록 적극적으로 지원하겠다“고 밝혔다.
