[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 11월 27일 의정부시청소년재단 새말청소년문화의집에서는 초등학교 5학년부터 중학생을 대상으로 진행한 경기북부보훈지청 현충시설 활성화 지원 사업 ‘역사 속 장소를 찾아서’를 종료했다고 밝혔다.

지난 6월 26일부터 11월 27일까지 역사 속 장소를 찾아서는 국가 유공자에 대한 감사한 마음을 갖고, 현충시설을 활성화 시키는 것을 목적으로 연간 총 6회 현충시설을 탐방하며 촬영한 사진과 영상물을 가지고 홍보영상을 제작하고 배포하여 국내 현충시설을 널리 알리고 현충의 의미를 되새기는 활동이라고 했다.

지난 6월에는 경기도 파주시에 있는 자유의 다리, 임진강지구 전적비 등을 탐방하고, 7월에는 인천에 있는 인천상륙작전기념관, 9월에는 경기도 화성시에 있는 제암리3.1운동 순국기념관, 10월에는 경기도 양평군에 있는 지평의병지평리전투기념관, 11월에는 경기도 동두천시에 있는 자유수호평화박물관과 서울에 있는 서대문형무소와 윤동주 문학관을 탐방했다고 전했다.

역사 속 장소를 찾아서 프로그램에 참가한 청소년들은 “부모님과 놀러왔던 곳인데 이런 현충시설이 있는지 몰랐어요! 다음엔 부모님과 함께 오고싶어요!”, “사전교육을 듣고서 현충시설을 둘러봐서 현충시설에 대해 이해도 잘 되고 역사에 대해 흥미를 가질 수 있게 되었다.”등 소감을 전했다.
