설악면은 관내 가로수를 주민 및 지역 단체 등이 직접 가꾸고 관리하는 시민주도의 가로수 관리 문화 정착을 위해 가지치기, 비료주기, 주변 정화활동을 벌이는 등 꾸준히 노력해왔다고 했다.

이번 전지작업은 나무 모양을 훼손하는 가지치기를 지양하고 가로수의 고유한 모습을 유지할 수 있는 방식으로 진행됐다고 했다.

이에 설악면행정복지센터는 설악면주민자치위원회의 협조에 부응할 수 있도록 전지 활동에 필요한 전정가위 및 장갑을 사전에 준비했고, 또한 이들의 장시간 활동에 따른 에너지 소비 및 탈수를 막기 위해 간식 및 생수도 아낌없이 지원했다고 말했다.
