[안종욱 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 신홍철 설악면주민자치위원장은 최근 미원천변 꽃길 조성사업을 실시하여 아름다운 벚꽃길을 조성했다고 밝혔다. 

이 사업은 지난 2016년 주민자치위원회에서 안건으로 채택되어 의결된 이후로 ‘눈메골 화려한 도약’이라는 이름 하에 지속되어오고 있으며, 이어 지난 2017년에는 ‘설악 미래를 심자’를 주제로 하여 주민자치위원회가 주축이 되어 관내 지역주민 남녀노소가 참여한 가운데 미원천변에 내나무 갖기 운동을 추진하여 왕벚나무를 직접 심고 가꾸어 주인의식을 고취하는 사업을 실시한 바 있다고 전했다.

한편 설악면주민자치위원회는 제8기부터 시작된 이 사업을 현재 제11기까지 이어오면서 왕벚나무 신식 및 보식, 거름주기, 전정작업 등을 실시하였고, 최근 제77회 식목일에는 설악면행정복지센터에 개나리 2,000주를 지원받아 미원천변에 인근 주택 건축 공사로 훼손되고 고사된 개나리를 보식하는 시간을 가졌다고 했다. 

신홍철 설악면주민자치위원장은 “주민자치위원회뿐만 아니라 설악면민 모두가 참여할 수 있는 사업을 통해 주민화합을 이끌고, 더불어 깨끗하고 아름다운 농촌 마을로 변모시키고, 지역주민 누구나 산책로를 걸으면서 건강도 챙기고 마음을 힐링할 수 있는 설악면의 명소 공간으로 만들어 주민들에게 희망을 심어줄 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

이범주 설악면장은 “설악면의 얼굴인 미원천을 가꾸는 일에 열정적으로 임해주시는 위원분들께 감사드린다”며 “앞으로도 깨끗하고 화사한 가로환경 조성에 더욱 노력하겠다”라고 말했다.

한편 행사를 실시한 미원천은 주민들의 주된 휴식공간으로 이용되는 곳으로 꽃나무 등 수목을 식재하여 도시미관을 개선해 시민들의 많은 호응을 얻었다고 했다.
