현재 가평군은 임시공영주차장을 포함해 52개소 공영주차장을 운영하고 있지만 일부지역에서는 주차난에 시달리고 있는 실정이다.

6일 군에 따르면 도심, 주택가 등 읍․면 시가지 내 주차공간 부족에 따른 주민불편을 해소하고자 오는 2024년까지 200억여 원을 들여 유동인구가 많은 가평읍 등 5개소에 551면의 공영주차장을 만들어 나갈 계획이다. 

먼저 군은 내년까지 가평읍 레일바이크 공영주차장 조성사업으로 67억여 원을 들여 연면적 5000㎡에 257면의 지상2층 타워주차장을 조성함으로서 주차환경을 개선할 방침이다.

이와 함께 금년까지는 3곳의 공영주차장도 완공된다. 26억여 원을 들여 가평읍 대곡리 243-14번지 어린이음악놀이터 일원 2,122㎡부지에 45면의 공용주차장을 확보해 차량운전자의 불편을 최소화 한다는 계획이다.

또한 조종면 시가지 공영주차장 조성사업으로 현리 274-10번지 조종초교 옆 2,929㎡부지에 90대를 주차할 수 있는 공간을 조성할 예정인 가운데 사업비는 30억여 원이 소요될 것으로 보인다.

끝으로 84억여 원을 투입해 청평면 457-2, 84-2번지 일원 2곳 9,563㎡부지에 159면의 주차장을 확보할 예정이다. 

가평군 공영주차장은 노상 및 노외 등의 공영주차장과 사유지 임차지 및 자투리 군유지 등 임시공영주차장 등으로 운영 중에 있다.

공영주차장은 가평읍 12개소 255면, 설악면 1개소 96면, 청평면 5개소 178면, 조종면 2개소 396면, 북면 1개소 52면 등 총 21개소 977면이 운영되고 있다.

임시공영주차장은 가평읍 13개소 291면, 설악면 2개소 78면, 청평면 10개소 244면, 조종면 4개소 161면, 북면 2개소 124면 등 총 31개소 898면으로 운영 중이다.
