[김현우 기자 = 강릉] 강릉시가 도시 규모 확대와 교통수요 증가 등 대내외 여건 변화에 대응하고자 추진한 '지방대중교통기본계획수립 용역'과 관련하여 16일 오후 최종보고회를 개최한다고 밝혔다. 

이번 용역은 '대중교통의 육성 및 이용촉진에 관한 법률'에 근거하여 5년 단위로 수립하도록 되어 있는 법정용역으로, 강릉시 대중교통 현황과 급격한 교통변화에 대한 세부적인 분석을 통해 이용자 편의성 개선안, 교통약자 이동권 보장안 등 구체적 추진방안을 제시할 예정이다.

또한, ITS(지능형 교통체계) 사업과 연계하여 강릉시만의 차별화된 대중교통 정책을 마련하는 내용이 포함되어 있다. 

본 계획은 최종보고회에서 제시된 내용을 반영하여 강원도 지방교통위원회 심의 의결을 거친 후 확정·고시될 예정이다. 

김홍규 강릉시 시장은 “이번 대중교통계획은 단순히 법정계획을 수립하는 것이 아니라 대내외 교통환경 변화에 대응하는 새로운 교통정책의 방향을 제시하는 것”이라며 “향후 기본계획에 제시된 내용을 구체화함으로써 보다 효율적이고 편리한 대중교통체계를 구축하겠다”고 말했다.
