[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 속초시가 관광객들과 주택건설 등으로 인해 도심지 교통여건이 수시로 변화됨에 따라 이를 반영한 신호체계 구축을 위한 교통신호 연동화 개선사업을 추진한다고 전했다.

속초시는 매년 도로교통공단과 함께 원활한 교통흐름을 위한 교통신호 연동화 개선사업을 진행하고 있으며, 금년에도 주도로 2개 구간을 선정, 4월부터 오는 10월까지 총 사업비 5000만 원을 투입하여 신호 체계 개선 및 연동화 사업을 진행한다고 밝혔다.

사업구간은 동해대로~중앙로(설악동입구삼거리~힐스테이트앞사거리)와 조양로~수복로(새마을사거리~터미널사거리) 내 총 47개 교차로가 대상으로, 신호운영체계 조사 및 시간을 조정하고 주행조사를 통해 불합한 교차로에 대한 운영방법을 개선하며 주말과 주중 시간대별 교통량 편차 발생에 따른 TOD(시간대별 신호 운영)를 적용할 예정이라고 했다.

속초시 관계자는 “평소 시간대별 통행량이 다른 교차로 및 관광객들이 많이 유입되는 도로구간의 신호 개선을 통해 시민들의 불편이 최소화될 수 있도록 노력하겠다.”라며“시민들께서도 바뀌는 신호 체계에 따라 도심지 내 안전운전에 많은 협조를 부탁드린다.”라고 말했다.
