[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 원주시가 야간 보행자의 안전 및 교통사고 방지를 위해 교차로에 조명타워를 추가 설치한다고 밝혔다.

원주시는 2015년부터 지난해까지 명륜동 의료원사거리 등 통행량이 많은 21개 교차로에 조명타워를 설치해 어두운 도로를 밝히고 있다고 전했다.

올해는 만종교차로에 조명타워를 설치할 계획으로, 서부순환도로 임시 개통 이후 통행량이 늘어난 만종교차로의 야간 교통사고 감소는 물론 보행자의 통행 안전도 크게 향상될 것으로 기대된다고 했다.

교차로에 설치하는 조명타워는 높이 21m의 조명시설로, 평균조도 70Lux(럭스)이며 기존 가로등보다 3배 이상 밝다고 전했다.

원주시 관계자는 “앞으로도 차량 통행량이 많은 교차로에 조명타워를 추가 설치해 안전한 원주시 조성에 최선을 다하도록 하겠다.”라고 말했다.
