[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 10월 21일 의정부시는 의정부시새마을회가 온실가스 감축을 위해 나무심기 활동을 전개했다고 밝혔다.

이번 활동에는 최병옥 회장, 한진숙 부녀회장, 새마을회 이사, 남녀 새마을지도자 등 약 40명이 참석해 중랑천 인근 둑(인도교~ 중랑천 폐철교 구간)에 벚나무 30여 그루를 식재했다고 했다. 

의정부시새마을회는 기후변화에 대한 능동적인 대응과 온실가스 감축을 위한 나무 심기, 재활용품 모으기 운동을 추진하고 있다고 전했다. 

최병옥 의정부시새마을회장은 “코로나19의 장기화로 어려운 상황이지만 지구온난화의 주범인 온실가스를 흡수하고, 하천 변의 미관을 개선할 수 있는 벚나무를 심었다.”라며 “앞으로도 탄소중립 실천을 위해 나무 심기 운동을 지속 추진할 계획이다.”라고 말했다.
